Areas of Interest Definitions

Here is a quick definition of our Areas of Interest. Use the corresponding Tags on the Specialty Camps page to narrow your search and find just the right program for your child.

Academic Enrichment
Our programs in math, reading, writing and more give students a boost as thought turns to the upcoming school year.

Animals
A variety of programs brings all areas of the animal kingdom to campers. From Catching Critters to Wildlife Wonders, we have camps that captivate kids and inspire "awww" all summer long.

The Arts
"The camp was so much fun that the kids didn’t even realize how much they were learning....really a must for any student!"
-- Michelle, parent of a Creative Writing Institute camper

Let your child’s creative side shine in one of our many arts camps taught by experienced teachers from PDS and from CreativeKids. Experts in the fine arts and the performing arts help campers express themselves in a relaxed, fun environment.

Cooking
Fun is the main ingredient in our deliciously educational cooking camps with Mrs. Balzer. A yummy summer awaits your child.

Culture
Children learn to think like global citizens in programs that take them around the world...without ever leaving camp! From Austria to New Zealand and many places in between, campers experience the music, food, crafts, and culture of their international peers.

Games & Hobbies
Curb your child’s boredom! These games and hobbies will keep them interested while they learn valuable life skills such as persistence, perseverance, and good sportsmanship.

Health & Wellness
Take care of the body AND mind in camps that focus on your camper’s well-being. We offer a variety of opportunities for boys and girls, including yoga camps and Michelle in the Middle programs, to learn and develop habits for lifelong health.

Music
Piano, guitar, ukulele, drums....we make music all summer long in programs that get fingers a-strummin' and toes a-tappin'.

Science
Miss Ava and The Original Curiosity Camp are celebrating their 21st year at PDS! As "The Science Lady," Miss Ava and her crack team of science educators have taught thousands of campers. The first camp was Ooze, Glop & Slime, and its timeless concepts are still as fascinating as ever to children of all ages. If you haven’t experienced a Miss Ava camp yet, now’s your chance!

Service
Your tender-hearted camper will enjoy helping others in our service-focused programs. Trips to area service organizations allow your child to make meaningful contributions to those in need.

STEM
Science, Technology, Engineering and Math….our STEM camps incorporate the disciplines that help kids advance in school and achieve their goals. Programs in 3D printing, coding, web development and more will challenge your camper. And they’re FUN, too!

Traditional Day Camp
Let your child decompress at Charger Chill Day Camp. This loosely-structured camp ensures plenty of time to play, relax, and enjoy being a kid. The Charger Chill bonus? Our camp water park brings cooling relief to those hot summer afternoons.

Theater
Drama kings and queens can soak up the applause in our multi-week production camps by CreativeKids. An audition and release of parts prior to the start of camp helps ease the suspense and ensure a smooth start to each production.

Auditions will be held May 11, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., OR May 12, 1-3 p.m., in the McMahon Fine Arts Center theater at Providence Day School. Be sure to read the CreativeKids FAQs for more information about what to expect at the audition. A PDF of the production show times is available here.

Outdoor Adventure
This is where adventure-seekers come! Lace up your hiking boots and spend some quality time with Mother Nature.
