MATI Karate

Develop a “Yes I Can” positive attitude through this fun and exciting karate program. Karate will improve your child in areas of self-discipline, self-confidence, habits, attitudes, fitness, motor skills, focus and concentration skills. This class covers basic level kicks, blocks and strikes, as well as formal and informal techniques. On the last day of class, students test for their next belt level. The test will include their color belt, certificate and requirements for their next belt.

Dynamic karate instructor Irwin Carmichael has studied karate for over 30 years and taught at Providence Day School in their Summer Programs since 1998. He is a ninth-degree black belt in Kempo Karate and oversees several martial arts schools in the Charlotte, NC area. Sensei Eliza Newell is a third degree black belt in Shorinji Kempo Karate, a level 4 in Balintawak Arnis, and is ranked in Brazilian Jujitsu. 

Campers should wear comfortable clothing; karate uniform is optional. Drop-off and pick-up in the carpool loop.
