Growth Mindset Math

The Growth Mindset Math camp is designed to give students tools and strategies to approach math in a new way. Campers will be empowered by activities that debunk myths about learning math, build number flexibility and mathematical reasoning skills, and reinforce visualizing number patterns. The camp is highly visual and hands-on. Many opportunities are built into the camp for the sharing and discussion of ideas. Campers will also learn about current research on how our brains learn math through an online course through Stanford Online.

This camp is especially for students who have had negative experiences with math, but will also benefit any student by empowering them to see math from different approaches. Campers will use an iPad and headphones for the course and should bring their own. If not available, an iPad will be provided. Pending health regulations, campers will have their own sets of manipulatives, markers and art supplies, and will have limited group work.

Mr. Mark Bartholet has been in or around a classroom since 2005. Trained and certified as both a secondary math and a Montessori teacher, he has taught math, science, and creative writing at the middle school and high school levels. In addition to his teaching, Mr. Bartholet also coaches Science Olympiad teams and sponsors the eCYBERMISSION club at PDS
