Capoeira Kids camp is proud to return to PDS for the 4th year. Campers are invited to join Contra-Mestre Zumbi and Maria Blackburn (PDS Kindergarten Teacher) for a week of learning the fundamentals of capoeira with rhythmic music, creative movement, and playful energy. Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form that teaches healthy social skills through partner and group exercises. It inspires self expression and creativity while nurturing holistic cultural awareness and appreciation. Campers will reinforce their learning of history, dance movements, music, language, and the rituals of capoeira through hands-on art and writing activities. Families are invited to join the fun at our capoeira roda (circle) on Share Time Friday.

Aristides Valeriano de Fatima, known internationally as Contra-Mestre Zumbi, started practicing capoeira at the age of 13. With his unique style of teaching, Contra-Mestre Zumbi creates fun and creative classes combining martial arts, expressive movements, and gymnastics into an exciting and challenging practice.
